about

Just a little over a year ago, women all across the globe took to the streets to assert their collective strength and political power. The Women's March was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history, and its enormity lead to a deepened national conversation about the role of women in society and the oppressions they face within it. That weekend, as the first protesters in Tokyo hit the streets, Jess Eliot Myhre was in labor with her first child, who arrived after 75 hours of natural labor as the final protesters in Hawaii made their way home.

The symbolism was not lost on her either.

2017, for anyone who was paying attention, was a tumultuous year. In the midst of the #metoo movement, Jess reflected on her own past experiences, as well as her blossoming new motherhood, and sat down and penned White Horse. It is an anthem to the feminine experience and the powers within, to be sure. But it is also a rallying cry to the power of collective action, eschewing the idea that any savior character is ever needed to drive a movement.

lyrics

You remind me of a sunny day
Whose beauty has yet to grace this land
You remind me of our need to pray
But there comes a time to put our faith into our hands

We don't need a man on a white horse
We don't need anything to save us
You gotta learn, listen what your mama said
We can move mountains when we harness our own power
We can move mountains when we harness our own power

Our generation took the road less traveled
We had no choice, the well-paved road had caved in
Under its own weight of lies and ignorance
So now the frontier is no longer only for white men

We don't need a man on a white horse
We don't need anything to save us
You gotta learn, listen what your mama said
We can move mountains when we harness our own power
We can move mountains when we harness our own power

You want somebody but you are somebody, so you got somebody to love
You want somebody but you are somebody, ohhhh

We don't need a man on a white horse
We don't need anything to save us
You gotta learn, listen what your mama said
We can move mountains when we harness our own power

We don't need a man on a white horse
We don't need anything to save us
You gotta learn, listen what your mama said
We can move mountains when we harness our own power
We can move mountains when we harness our own power
